North Richland Hills: years of dry spots,
a new head and raised heads.

This North Richland Hills lawn had dry, yellow patches for years and the owner was hand-watering. The system had bad heads, flooding and heads sitting too low. Landon added a new head on a trench, put in new nozzles, raised the low heads and adjusted how long and how often the system waters. The total was $450.

Problemdry spots and yellow grass for years. Had to hand water. Many bad heads, flooding, and multiple heads too low.

Solutionnew head added and trenched. New nozzles, raised multiple heads. And adjusted time and frequency of water.

Dry spots and flooding on the same system

It sounds contradictory, but it is common: one corner is brown while water pools somewhere else. Both come from the same thing, water not landing where it is meant to. Low heads spray into the grass around them, worn nozzles throw uneven patterns, and a broken head can gush in one spot while the next head over gets too little pressure.

One common reason to add a head is an area no existing head reaches. Extra run time can't fix that. Another head can, and adding one means a trench.

What was done

A new head was added and trenched in along a concrete edge, which is the photo: turf cut back, a narrow trench, and the new head at the end of it. Nozzles were replaced, the low heads were raised, and the run time and watering frequency were adjusted.

Why does my lawn have dry spots even though the sprinklers run?

Usually because water isn't reaching those spots: heads sitting below the grass, worn or mismatched nozzles, or an area no head covers. Longer run times don't fix any of those. On this North Richland Hills lawn the fix was a new head plus new nozzles and raised heads.
