Keller: a system that hadn't
been checked in a while.

This Keller system hadn't been run through in a while. Landon ran it one zone at a time, fixed a broken head, raised the heads that had sunk too low, and set run times for each zone and a new watering schedule. The total was $85.

Why heads end up too low

Thatch and turf build up around a spray head over the years, and heads can settle too. Eventually the nozzle pops up into grass blades instead of clearing them. The spray hits the grass right next to the head and never reaches the far side of its pattern. That shows up as dry patches that more watering does not fix.

Raising the head back above the turf is a small job per head. It is also one of the most common reasons a lawn looks thirsty on a system that is running.

What was done

Every zone was run and watched. The broken head was fixed, the low heads were raised, and each zone got its own run time before a schedule was set on the controller. Keller waters on a twice-a-week schedule assigned by address, with no sprinkler watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., so the schedule has to fit inside that.

What should be checked on a sprinkler system that hasn't run in a while?

Run each zone by itself and watch it: broken heads, heads that sit below the grass, clogged or misaimed nozzles, and run times that no longer suit the season. On this Keller job it came to $85.
